The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya light novel: official english translation

29032009022

Ah, nothing like reading Haruhi on a Barnes & Noble while sipping on a good latte and browsing 4chan on your macbook pro for maximum hipster weeaboo points.

Got this thing today, woo. I was browsing a haruhi imageboard today, someone mentioned they got theirs, so I checked Barnes & Noble’s website to see if I could get it. It showed they had it on stock, and that the store was open until 9pm, plus it was only ~$10, so why the heck not? Plus the thing isn’t supposed to be out yet, so that’s gotta be worth mentioning.

For the translation, it’s rather good, I’ve only read 3 chapters but there was nothing out of place on it yet, compared to the baka-tsuki translation.

Noteworthy things: Kyon thinks Asakura is a “hottie” (lol), the summary on the back of the book says Kyon sits behind Haruhi (fail) and Kyon mentions that “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” (awesome).

Anyway, eating nothing but a taco for lunch + coffee + reading stuff on the bus back = sick me. Gonna go get something to eat or I’ll pass out.

Bwahaha! I also noticed the “Meet Kyon – the sarcastic guy who sits behind Haruhi…” on the back of the hardcover I bought the other day. I really didn’t like the translations from this Official English release compared to the fan-translations from a torrent I found on Demonoid. But I just had to own myself a copy because it is my duty as a fan.
