So I was browsing four chons’ /a/ the other day, reading threads of interest, looking at the pretty pictures. (isn’t that how it always starts?) One thread, that I don’t remember the contents of, had a little discussion about Denpa teki na Kanojo. It didn’t seem well known, but those who had watched it were praising it. A Tokyo Toshokan search was linked.
A quick jump to wikipedia to check the plot yielded nothing. (srsly) Had to resort to an alternative, in this case ANN (lol) for the plot summary. Mystery and murder and and girl wanting to serve him, sounds interesting enough. And anyway, since there’s only one episode released, I wouldn’t feel bad about dropping it.
It starts with a rape scene, after some CGI buildings and some kanji spam. wat! The setting changes to a school (which while normal, looks much darker than on other anime), weird stuff happens.
Weird stuff keeps happening, the scenarios get complex, detailed, the plot more fast paced. So many plot twists, more than your regular whodunit, and when you think the thing is over as they apparently solved it, there’s 15 minutes left and more weird and dark stuff happens. (seriously, everybody is fucked up on this thing.)
When you see it, you’ve been glued to the screen the whole time. I really, really liked the plot, the characters, even the character design which I had originally dismissed. The only 1 ep released advantage became a disadvantage as the next episode is coming out only on December (subs where!). I’ll even try Kure-nai, another manga/anime series adapted from a light novel by the same author/studio/illustrator combo.
Notice I didn’t properly summarize the plot, for it is quite complex, and crucial to the appreciation (lol) of this anime. But seriously, there are only 40 minutes of it released, you won’t waste too much time even if you dislike it. Go watch it.
Available on torrents or your favorite XDCC bot on rizon. (I went with Ayako’s release)
